Celiac Plexus Block

I had to reschedule my appointment from March 27th for my plexus block to June 30th due to COVID19. This day was pretty gnarly I got to admit. I arrived at 7:30am at Stamford Hospital in Connecticut where I settled myself in a small room with a raggedy curtain used to replace the door. I was prepped and mildly sedated during the procedure which put me in a twilight zone. I felt the needles numbing and injecting the medicine but overall I was pretty out of it. After waking up from my little snooze, I was told to eat whatever and as much as I could so they can test my pain after I eat by pressing on my abdomen. Unfortunately the test only lasted me for two hours but I was able to eat way more than I thought without feeling nauseous or having to vomit after being super full and congested.

My breakfast consisted of four potato and onion perogies which normally crush my stomach and have to deal with ongoing pain throughout the entire day. I had two dollar pancakes with some hash browns, two thin strips of bacon, and a small corn muffin. I enjoyed a sweet cup of fruit including pineapple and a side of apple juice! And for dessert I had a lovely thin slice or cheesecake to which I devoured and digested smoothly. Normally for breakfast I wouldn’t eat or I would eat a small muffin if anything and barely finish it.

I have never felt so much joy after eating all that within two to three hours and didn’t feel nauseous or in pain after or during the meal. I managed to not feel anything until it wore off and the car ride to the appointment with the original doctor was dreadful.

I saw Dr Hsu later that day after the brutally painful and nauseating car ride and was told I have MALS and he sees the NCS and I have functional Superior Mesenteric Artery Syndrome but would need to run a specific upper GI study to test for positional SMAS.
